So you’re getting LOADS of impressions on Pinterest – amazing start! You’ve put in the work, your pins are reaching the right people, and your brand is getting noticed.
But if those impressions aren’t turning into clicks (let alone sales), it can feel like all that effort is going to waste.
This is something so many brands experience. The good news is that the solution is simpler than you think. It just comes down to making sure your pins are not just seen, but that they actually inspire action.
Here’s how to do that!
HAVE A CLEAR CALL TO ACTION (CTA)
The most important part of turning views into sales is having a clear call to action (CTA).
In fact, including a clear and compelling CTA in your Pin description can increase engagement by 80%!
This is because if people don’t know what to do next, they won’t do anything. It’s really that simple. Without a CTA, your audience might love your pin, but they won’t know what steps to take to engage further. And that’s where you lose potential sales!
Your CTA should be specific and actionable. Instead of a vague “Click here,” make it clear and enticing.
For example:
- “Shop The Collection Now”
- “Click to Learn More”
- “Get Your Discount Today”
You just need to tell people exactly WHAT you want them to do, and WHY they should do it. If you give them clear direction, you’ll make it easy for them to take that next step.
ADD YOUR CTA TO YOUR PIN
Once you’ve chosen the perfect CTA, add it to your pin’s design! One of the best ways to do this is by adding it as a text overlay or as a sticker.
A well-designed text overlay can immediately grab attention and guide your audience toward the next step. Use a bold, easy-to-read font and place the CTA where it’s visible but doesn’t overwhelm the image. For example, if you're offering a sale, you could add a simple “Get 30% Off! Now” across the top or bottom of the image.
Sticker graphics are another great option. A little sticker design in the corner of your pin with your CTA is perfect if you don’t want your CTA to take away from the overall image but still want to encourage action!
Pinterest users spend 80% more per month than on other platforms however, meaning they basically come to the app looking to shop! So don’t worry too much if adding your CTA takes away from your pin's “aesthetic” - remember that people are there to buy just as much as they are to make moodboards!
ADD YOUR CTA TO YOUR DESCRIPTION
Make sure you include your CTA in the description too! The first few lines of your description are crucial for encouraging clicks, so this is where your CTA will go.
After a brief intro explaining the context of your pin, just add in your CTA.
Remember, like before, keep it short, clear, and focused on what action you want your audience to take. For example:
- “Click to shop and get 20% off your first order!”
Including a CTA early in your description ensures that it’s front and centre when people are scanning your pin. You can always elaborate later, but make sure your audience knows exactly what to do as soon as they read your pin’s description.
80% of Pinners have discovered a new brand or product on Pinterest, so it’s likely that if they’re interested in your pin, they’ll be interested in shopping for what's on it! All you have to do is make sure they know how.
USE RICH PINS AND LINK DIRECTLY TO SALES PAGES
If you haven’t set up Rich Pins yet, what are you waiting for? Rich Pins allow you to add extra details (like pricing, availability, etc.) directly onto your pins.
This not only helps your audience get all the info they need right there on Pinterest, but it also encourages clicks because it’s easy for them to learn more about your product without leaving the platform.
If your goal is to increase sales, always link your pins directly to the product or sales page. With 55% of Pinners using Pinterest to find and shop for products, make it as easy as possible for your audience to buy or take the next step.
TEST, TWEAK, REPEAT
What’s so great about Pinterest is that you can experiment with different designs, CTAs, and strategies to see what works best without having to worry about keeping to one aesthetic (like you might on Instagram when curating a feed!).
You may need to try a few things before you find your perfect combination, and on Pinterest, that’s okay.
Keep an eye on your pins to see which ones generate more clicks and sales, and then tweak your designs, descriptions, and calls to action, and keep refining your strategy as you go. Small changes can lead to big results!
